Katrín Jakobsdóttir

Katrin Jakobsdottir was a member of Parliament from 2007 to 2024. Prior to that she tought Icelandic, worked in publishing, writing and in the media as well as being a deputy city council woman in Reykjavik 2002 -2006. She was elected the leader of Left Green in the year 2013, was the minster of education and culture from 2009-2013 and became Prime Minister 2017 until 2024. Katrin has a masters degree in Icelandic literature, specializing in Icelandic crime novels. She is married to Gunnar Sigvaldason and toghether they have three sons.

As Prime Minister she had to lead the nation through various disasters. World epidemic between 2020 and 2022 and natural disasters. Among them volcanic outbreaks, avalanches and severe storms. While Prime Minister Katrins gained valuable experience in working with responders, especially the Icelandic rescue teams. Her lecture will focus on the resiliance of communities and what we can learnd from the work of the Icelandic rescue teams, other first responders and the government.
