The lecture looks at the "mathematical formula" PoS = PoA x PoD and how it is used (or not used) in missing person incidents. The lecturer looks over his shoulder at his 50 years of experience in search and rescue work. This is not a math lecture. The aim of the lecture is to give the listeners a better understanding of the terms "Probability of Area" (PoA) and "Probability of Detection" (PoD) and how they can be used in search and rescue work together with the KISS principle (Keep it Simple and Straightforward).TCSR's recent study of PoD, based on the concept of critical distance, will be reviewed and woven into the discussions.
