Active member of search and rescue group for 24 years. I am a SAR instructor, search manager, swiftwater rescue technician, SAR drone pilot etc. The lecture will cover the big picture of the rescue, not just the obvious parts. In order to obtain resources for the mission and when the evacuees have arrived on land, there are many tasks to solve due to the magnitude of the incident.

The evacuation of the cruise ship Viking Sky as of 23 March 2019. The cruise ship had a blackout and almost ran aground in rough seas at Hustadvika, Norway. The potential for the incident was hundreds of missing and casualties, as well as major environmental damage. A much larger and different scenario than usual for the resources, and how we solved the tasks with the Norwegian cooperative model of rescue services. Lecture will include how we handled large numbers of evacuees when they arrived at the evacuation center on land, efficient use of helicopter resources, lines of communications, logistics with the evacuees' information needs, transport onshore to several reception centers, hotels, airspace coordination, vessels involved at sea, handling the media , and unforeseen challenges etc.
