Arnar Þór Egilsson

Arnar Thor studied electronics and has worked as an electronic technician. Has been a police officer since 1998. Since 2005, working at National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police. Some work specialties are as a bomb technician and a police diver. Since 2016, working as an administrator for unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) for the Icelandic Police.

Drones have been used since the volcanic eruption started in Reykjaness peninsula in 2021. With the threat from a volcanic eruption around the town of Grindavik and important infrastructure in Svartsengi, the drones have played an even bigger part in overall situational awareness, security, and safety to first responders, infrastructure teams, and others in that area. The lecture will include how the operations went, the importance of information and data sharing in real-time in crisis, technical capabilities and problems, how different units need to adapt and cooperate, challenges, and how we can prepare for the next event.
